Minister Bajrami visited Macedonian Red Cross

redcrossThe Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Mr. Dzeljalj Bajrami visited Macedonian Red Cross. During today’s meeting the Minister Bajrami and the Secretary General of Macedonian Red Cross, Mr. Sait Sati expressed preparedness and interest for enhancing the fruitful cooperation through implementation of projects for assistance of vulnerable target groups.

Macedonian Red Cross and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy will soon sign an agreement for cooperation on the project – “Station for homeless people”.

MACEDONIAN RED CROSS

pomos-haitiAfter the launched Appeal of Macedonian Red Cross for the affected population from the floods in the Republic of Albania and the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, on February 10th, Macedonian Red Cross organized a press conference to announce the results regarding the raised funds for this purpose.

Macedonian Red Cross raised Denar 482.502,00 for the affected population from the floods in the Republic of Albania from the following donors: from the three mobile telephone operators, the Assembly of the City of Skopje, Red Cross Branch Chair, RI-RUDIS, Company - Kavadarci and from the residents of the village Arawel – Kichevsko.

Macedonian Red Cross raised Denar 2.088.814, for the affected population from the disastrous earthquake in Haiti from the following donors: the three mobile telephone operators, the Assembly of the City of Skopje, the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia (one perdeim from the deputies), RI-RUDIS, Company- Kavadarci and from citizens..

Vulnerability capacity assessment

Establishment of a framework for future cooperation

rikerOn November 25th, the ambassador of the United States of America, Philip T. Reeker, made a working visit to Macedonian Red Cross. The objective of the meeting was obtaining information about the operation of the national society and establishment of a framework for future humanitarian cooperation.

Macedonian Red Cross presented the overall activities of the organization and the ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Macedonian Red Cross and expressed interest for promotion of the joint activities between the embassy and the national society particularly in the area of organizing another blood donation action for the staff of the US embassy in the year to come as well as promotion of cooperation through joint actions of the Macedonian Red Cross branches and the Peace Corps through the US embassy and other humanitarian initiatives that will arise in the forthcoming period.

World day of remembrance for road traffic victims

On 26 October 2005, the United Nations adopted a resolution which calls for governments to mark the third Sunday in November each year as World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Every year, an estimated 1.3 million people lose their lives and at least 50 million people are injured as a result of road accidents. Each year 260 000 children die in road accidents and more than one million are seriously injured, very frequently with permanent disability. The startling reality is that every day more than 3400 people die on road accidents, including 1000 children and young people.
