Health preventive activities

 

Macedonian Red Cross implements the activities in the area of health education in compliance with the strategic priorities, the mandate of the organization and the calendar of traditional activities of the national society, with possibility for scaling up the activities through implementation of other programmes and projects. Special emphasis in the process of the implementation of the activities is placed on: prevention of Tuberculosis, prevention of malignant diseases, prevention of HIV/AIDS, prevention of addiction diseases with focus on harm reduction from drugs, protection of the reproductive health of women and protection of new born babies, as well as on training of the population for administering first aid.

In compliance with article 28 of Macedonian Red Cross Law, the traditional weeks that are marked in the area of health preventive activities are as follows:

 

01-08 March              “Week for fight against Cancer”

14 – 21 September “Week for fight against TB”

01 - 07 December   “Week for fight against HIV/AIDS”

During the marking of the traditional weeks, the following activities are implemented:

Distribution of appropriate lectures for protection from malignant diseases, Tuberculosis and AIDS.

Printing and distribution of appropriate, posters.

Printing of appropriate additional post stamps.

Printing and distribution of stickers.

 

During the implementation of the activities, the electronic and printed media are actively involved in the process.

 

Macedonian Red Cross In compliance the calendar of regular activities in the area of health prevention and education marks the following days and weeks:


21- 28 February        “Week for fight against Cardiovascular Diseases”.

27 March                   “Day of the Health Education “

10 - 16. October        “Week for fight against Diabetes”

23 - 28 November    “Week for fight against alcohol, drugs and smoking”

15 - 21 December    “Week for Dental Care”


During the marking of the days and weeks, the following activities are implemented:

Distribution of appropriate lectures

Printing and distribution of appropriate, posters.

 

During the implementation of the activities, the electronic and printed media are actively involved in the process.

 

In frames of the activities of the sector for health prevention and education numerous seminars and workshops are organized for training of trainers who will conduct the education of the population in the area of health preventive care.


In the area of health preventive care, Macedonian Red Cross implements projects for:

Prevention of HIV/AIDS among vulnerable groups.
Prevention of drugs in primary schools

Harm reduction from drugs

Work in distant border areas

Health education, peer education for drugs and STD’s.
Capacity building – marking the traditional weeks for fight against Cancer, Tuberculosis and AIDS.
Enhancing capacities for prevention of HIV/AIDS
Marking the Week for fight against AIDS


All the projects are financed by international donors, as follows: HOPE, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Italian Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross, International Committee of the Red Cross and others.

Macedonian Red Cross was actively involved in the prevention of infective diseases, particularly in the prevention of bird flu.
